Vocation and Discernment

The discernment process begins from the moment you become aware of a sense of inner calling to be ordained or when a person suggests it might be right for you.

At some point you will be ready to talk further with others. Your Parish Priest is an excellent starting point.

At some point you will want to explore your sense of call more fully with the Church. In Adelaide, the first thing you should do is make contact with the Archbishop by ringing his Executive Assistant on 08 8305 9353.

The Archbishop with the assistance of the Examining Chaplains or the College Principal will determine a discernment process appropriate to each candidate. This will normally involve meeting with other inquirers for at least twelve months in a guided program to help you explore aspects of vocation and ministry. The enquiry stage is an encouraging and supportive time as well as a time of testing and questioning.  The key elements of this stage are discernment, study and gaining experience in ministry and leadership.

There are many questions you will be asking of yourself and that others will ask of you. People will want to know about your relationship with God. They will want to see integrity between what you say and what you do. We will join with you in exploring your emotions, your resilience, your warmth and your humour.

In all of this we know that moving into the ordained ministry is a very public move. We will be listening for your passion for the Christian faith and your willingness to express that within the Anglican Church.

We are looking for excited, motivated and caring missionary leaders.
